About

Specter is a Bitcoin wallet interface built specifically around two ideas: hardware wallets should be easy to use together in a multisig setup, and your own full node should be the thing verifying your balance.

Multisig is the reason most people run it. Setting up a wallet that needs two of three keys to spend has historically meant fiddly manual work and a real risk of getting the configuration wrong in a way you only discover when trying to recover. Specter walks through adding each device, assembling the quorum, and confirming everything is registered correctly before funds are involved.

It works with the common hardware wallets — Coldcard, Trezor, Ledger, BitBox02, and the DIY Specter device among them — and coordinates them through partially signed Bitcoin transactions, so each device signs in turn and no single machine ever holds enough to spend. Because PSBT is a standard, the wallet remains recoverable with other software.

Rather than shipping its own chain backend, Specter uses the Bitcoin Core instance on your MyNode as its wallet engine. Your node tracks the addresses, calculates balances, and broadcasts transactions, which means no external server is ever told what your multisig wallet contains.

It suits anyone holding an amount where a single hardware wallet has started to feel like a single point of failure, and who wants the setup verified against their own node.
