About
Astral is a web-based client for Nostr, a protocol built to make decentralized social media workable. Rather than holding an account on a company's server, your identity on Nostr is a keypair you control, and your posts are published to relays that anyone can run.
Because identity is a key rather than a row in somebody's database, no operator can take your account away and no single server has to stay online for you to keep posting — if a relay stops carrying your notes you publish to others and your followers still find you. Astral wraps that in a conventional social interface: a feed of the people you follow, profiles, threaded replies, direct messages, and the usual posting and following.
It began as a fork of the Branle client and runs entirely in the browser. Serving it from your own MyNode means the client comes from hardware you control rather than someone else's website, and it pairs naturally with Nostr RS Relay if you would rather run your own relay than rely on public ones.
