About
Lightning Pool is a peer-to-peer marketplace for Lightning channel liquidity. It connects operators who need inbound capacity with operators who have idle capital, letting the first pay the second to open a channel in their direction — while both keep full custody of their funds.
The problem it addresses is a real inefficiency in the network. A new node has no way to signal that it needs inbound liquidity so it can receive payments, and an established node has no pricing information to tell it where its outbound capital would be most useful. Both sides want the same trade and have no venue in which to find each other.
Pool's first product is the Lightning Channel Lease: an inbound channel with an agreed duration, bought at a market-determined price. If you need to receive payments, you buy one. If you have capital sitting idle, you lease it out and earn a yield on funds that would otherwise be doing nothing.
Mechanically it is a non-custodial auction. Bids stay private, and the market clears periodically rather than continuously — once per block, or after several blocks if nothing matches — which discourages the bidding games that continuous order books invite. On a MyNode it runs its own daemon alongside LND, and can also be driven from Lightning Terminal.
